Car
of the month January 2000.
Dan
Bettis' Registry entry
The way it came:
Year: 1992
Model: Z24
Options: 5-speed
(actually standard, but it not easy to find). Power door locks, rear
defroster, and AC (some how it has survived me wanting to remove it). Pretty much a base Z24.
Mods:
Engine and
Drivetrain: 3400
is on its way. A Muncie 3XTX
trans axle from a SCX Achivea.
Ported heads and
intake. 56mm throttle body
and chip. New cold air intake
with K&N air filter in the fender. Mangacore wires and AC plugs. Custom 2.25
exhaust with DynoMax Super Turbo muffler and cat. Heavy duty clutch and light
weight flywheel.
Adjustable temperature controlled fan switch.
Remove throttle body heater lines. Check out my new 5hp exhaust
mod. SCX trans with a 3.94 FD.
Suspension and
braking:
Front, Predator
rebound adjustable shocks with coil
overs with 450 lbs*in Eibach ERS springs
and camber plates. Urethane control arm and
sway bar bushings on a stock bar. Rear, Predator
rebound adjustable shocks with custom made 800 lbs*in
springs. 26mm rear sway bar. My wheels are 15x7 American
Racing Spyders (AR-55) and the tires are 225/50/15 Kumho or Hoosiers for racing,
For street use I run 225/50/15 Yokohama A509's and 15x7 Fiero wheels. As
for braking I still used the stock parts with Carbotech Super Street F pads in
the front and Raybestos rear shoes.
Performance: Best ET to date is a 15.27@86.8mph. At Putnam Park
Road Course (1.8 miles) I ran 1:26:35 with only my suspension mods the engine
stuff came later. 6.85 seconds 0 to 60 was the best I got before things
like my trans and ball joints held back launching. 1999
SCCA Central Division STU (Street Touring Unlimited now SM Street Mod) Champion.
Appearance: I have silver and yellow stripes offset to the
driver's side. Hash marks on the fenders in silver. All emblems except the Z24
on the rear quarter panel have been removed. Blacked out taillights and pedal
covers. Also I painted the my intake and valve covers
body color.
